- 2013 세계조정선수권대회 충주유치를 위한 결의문 채택 -

□ 충주시의회(의장 류호담)는 3월30일 오전11시 제135회 충주시의회 임시회 제2차 본회의를 열고 2013 세계조정선수권대회를 유치함으로써 정부의 4대강살리기 프로젝트와 병행 친환경 녹색도시 충주를 세계적인 조정의 메카로 거듭 태어날 수 있도록 시민의 대표기관인 시의회에서 적극  지지하기로  결의했다. 




□ 충주시의회는 2013 세계조정선수권대회가 성공적으로 개최되도록 경기장 시설과 대회진행에 따른 FISA와 충주시의 입장을 지지하는 등 시의회 차원에서 적극 협조하기로 하였으며, 결의문은 4월 FISA실시단 방문시 전달할 예정이다. 




□ 국제조정연맹(FISA)은 최근들어 아시아와 아프리카등 비유럽․비미주 지역에 조정을 널리 보급하고 확산시키기 위해서 노력하고 있어 조정의 세계화 확산에 기여하고자 아시아권인 한국에서 세계조정선수권대회 개최를 희망, 유치후보 도시로서 충주시가 유치를 희망하였고 아시아조정연맹에서도 2013년 충주개최를 만장일치로 지지하여 그 뜻을 국제조정연맹(FISA)에 전달한 바 있다. 




□ 충주시의회는 2013 세계조정선수권대회가 반드시 충주에서 개최되고 성공적으로 치루어질 수 있도록 의회차원의 지원과 협조를 결의문을 통하여 약속 하였다. 






Resolution in support of Chung-ju City's bidding for 


2013 World Rowing Championship 




  Rowing has been part of the Olympic Games ever since the first round of the games. The sport has 14 events in the Olympics and is widespread across some 130 nations in the world. 


  The International Rowing Federation (FISA) promote rowing in non-European and non-American regions such as Asia and Africa. Most of the main rowing competition take place in Europe, North America or Oceania. FISA's policy is to promote rowing world wide, especially in Africa South, Central America and Asia. In order to join FISA's policy, Chung-ju City expressed its desire to bid for the global rowing championship. The Asia Rowing Federation delivered to FISA its full support toward Chung-ju by unanimously upholding the City as the next host. 


  Chung-ju municipal government already built a ground for rowing venue on Tan-geum Lake and organized the 2004 National Games, the 2007 National Games and the 2007 Asia Rowing Championships. In 2007, especially, the City successfully hosted three games; the Asia Senior Rowing Championship; Asia Junior Rowing Championship; and Asia Rowing Championship for the disabled, winning FISA's recognition of its athletic facilities and operational capability. 


            


  The 2013 World Rowing Championship in Chung-ju would provide an invaluable opportunity to make the most of the rowing facilities, including sanitation facilities and bicycle road around the Tan-geum Lake as tourism resources in connection with the Korean government's nationwide project to restore four major rivers. 




  Whereas, sincerely desiring the hosting of the 2013 World Rowing Championship in Chung-ju, we, the Chung-ju Municipal Council and the 21.000 Chung-ju citizens are expressing our resolution as follow. 




1. The Chung-ju Municipal Council shares FISA's commitment to promote rowing across the world and expresses its strong desire to host and fulfill the 2013 Chung-ju World Rowing Championships! 




1. The Chjung-ju Municipal Council promises its full support toward the Chung-ju City's bidding for the 2013 World Rowing Championship as well as the City government's efforts to promote rowing! 




1. The Chung-ju Municipal Council will endorse the position of FISA and the Chung-ju City regarding rowing facilities and event management for a successful organization of the 2013 World Rowing Championship and declare complete cooperation in this matter!
